Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can damage their health but may not know that indoor air pollution can also have significant effects. EPA studies indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2 - 5 times higher than outdoor levels.
The efficiency of a filter refers to the percentage of contaminants in the air that become trapped in the filter. For example a 7% efficient filter will allow 93% of contaminants in the air to be recycled back into your home. MERV - Minimum
Efficiency Report Value. Reports a filter's ability to capture larger
particles between 0.3 and 10 microns. This value is helpful in
comparing the performance of different filters. The rating is derived
from a test method developed by the American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
Disposable filters need to be replaced monthly.
Permanent
Filters need to be washed monthly to maintain their efficiency levels.
