Furnace Warranty
Information
When replacing your furnace, your responsibilities do not end once the installation is completed and you have paid for the work. Familiarize yourself with the owners manual and maintenance requirements of your new equipment. Failure to follow the maintenance requirements in your owners manual can compromise your manufacturer's warranty or extended warranty on your equipment. Many breakdowns occur because regular maintenance is not done as required. New furnaces have more electronics, and can be more sensitive to dust, debris and damage caused by plugged filters, overheated limits and dust-laden fan motors. Breakdowns for these reasons are NOT covered by warranty. Manufacturer's Warranty vs. Extended Warranty Most manufacturers provide a limited parts warranty on new equipment. Usually this warranty is for 1-5 years from installation date, but do not include labour costs and can be limited to the original purchaser. Extended warranties are purchased as an addition to the standard manufacturer warranty. These can cover replacement parts only, labour only or parts and labour for 1-10 years from installation date. These can sometimes be transferred when the home is sold to a new owner. When you purchase an extended warranty and receive the warranty agreement, keep it in a safe place since you may need to prove the warranty to the service provider if it is needed. Extended Warranty - What is not covered? As a rule of thumb, an extended warranty can protect you from unexpected and unbudgeted service calls. However, your warranty is a contract in which you agree to follow the maintenance guidelines as outlined in your owners manual and in the warranty agreement. Most extended warranties DO NOT cover:
