Keep Your Air Conditioning from Overworking
- Selecting an energy-efficient air
conditioner is the first step in reducing your energy costs
- Have the unit cleaned and checked
regularly by a qualified service technician. The best time
to have
your system checked is in the spring before the cooling season
starts
- Clean or replace your filter at
least once a month
- Keep Trees and Shrubbery away from
the outdoor unit as air circulation can be restricted
- Close your curtains or blinds
during the hottest part of the day
- Run heat-producing appliances such
as your dishwasher, dryer or oven in the early morning
when possible
- Set the thermostat at the highest
temperature setting for occupant comfort
(25.5°C is usually
recommended).
- Leave your Air Conditioning on all
day at a slightly higher temperature than you usually do.
Leaving
the system off all day and letting your home heat up, and then turning it on when
you come home at night will make it seem like your air conditioning
system is running
excessively. As well, you will find it takes a
significant amount of time for your home to cool,
in turn reducing
the enjoyment of your cooling system.
