Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can damage their health but may not know that indoor air pollution can also have significant effects. EPA studies indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2 - 5 times higher than outdoor levels.

The efficiency of a filter refers to the percentage of contaminants in the air that become trapped in the filter. For example a 7% efficient filter will allow 93% of contaminants in the air to be recycled back into your home.

MERV - Minimum Efficiency Report Value. Standard comparison of the efficiency of the filter to capture particles between 3 and 10 microns in size. This value is helpful in comparing the performance of different Media filters. The rating is derived from a test method developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

The higher the MERV rating the better the filter is at trapping specific types of particles.

Disposable Filters

Disposable filters need to be replaced monthly. Invest in a permanent filter and never buy a filter again!

Low Grade Fiberglass Disposable 7% EFFICIENT MERV 4
Hammock Style 7% EFFICIENT MERV 4
1" Pleated 20-30% EFFICIENT   MERV 8-10
5" Media MERV 10

*A special note on disposable filters, the efficiency of these filters depends on frequent replacement. A disposable filter that is dirty will not trap any additional dirt. Once it is dirty the efficiency is 0%.

Permanent Filters need to be washed monthly to maintain their efficiency levels.
